Help please! Controller

Unread postby deem_deem » January 31st, 2008, 12:02 am

I have a ps3 controller and am using it as a controller for Melty Blood but the buttons are terribly messedup.
is there a way i can use square, triangle, x and circle as buttons 6,7,8,9? because when i go on Control Panel>Game Controllers> PS3 controller Properties> Test square appears as button 16, triangle as 13, circle as 14 and X 15. I want to know if i would be able to change it to 6,7,8,9 or something so it can work on Melty Bood ReAct final tuned
why cant i change the playstation 3 buttons (square, triangle, circle,X) to 6,7,8,9?

In regular pc gamepad settings those would be 1,2,3,4. :P

6 is R1, 7 is L2, 8 is R2 and 9 select.

Try altering the button setup in the game's setup maybe.

Download j2k here: http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/Jo ... ersion.htm
set it up and bind your pad buttons to respective button on the default keybuttons for mb. movment: arrow keys, nm,.jk for moves. You'll figure it out. Also I'm not sure if the PS3 pad uses POV for directions, if that is the case you need to check the "Use POV" thingie in j2k to get the binding for them. Also, if the directions on the pad already work in mb, you only need to bind the move-keys etc.

Hi Everyone!
I just got my PS3 controller.
I plugged it in my PC and it works real fine.
BUT my only problem is that when I try to configure my D-pad which goes 5,6,7,8 (on PC)
Melty Blood recognize them as controls in game(5,6,7,8) which results to be A B C D or whatever is assigned (the pop-up before playing)
So all is ok except Melty Blood doesn't let me completely Bypass its internal configs.
Because in that little pop-up we can't configure the PAD or Joystick, just buttons.
Which is pretty annoying cause my 5,6,7,8 goes over everything else.

Is there a way to bypass it? or to solve my problem?

Thx people.

for ps3 controllers, the button numbers are too high to be recognized by MB

so use JoytoKey program that pukka linked to

This is what I do with Joy to key. It works.

But, when I'm in game I press let's say Left on the d-pad.
My character moves to the left (which is what I programmed) but Melty Blood configurations are still there so it goes LEFT + A
So I have 2 assigned Buttons on the same button.

Melty Configuration(which I can't bypass) and Joy to key.

all you do iis turn on all 3 "do not use" boxes then put the rest on buttons you dont use.

Test which buttons on the ps3 controller that MB does recognize and put it on the box that u want it to be. Then for your rest, put a button you dont use

Sorry for bringing up an old topic such as this but creating a new one might cause more trouble.

Ok i've read through this and already tried the Joy to Key thing...(unless I'm doing something wrong)
My controls are still the same. I wanted to change the button scheme if possible.
Currently they are

#1 = SELECT
#2 = L3
#3 = R3
#4 = START
#5 = DPAD UP
#6 = DPAD RIGHT
#7 = DPAD DOWN
#8 = DPAD LEFT
#9 = L2
#10 = R2
#11 = L1
#12 = R1
#13 = Triangle
#14 = Circle
#15 = X
#16 = Square
#17 = PS Button
#18-19 = nothing

Because Melty Blood only supports up to....10 not all the buttons usable.
How could I change the the triangle into...lets sat #1 instead of it being #13.

This is also my first time doing something like this so the instructions that the joy to key had...didn't click.
If it was something I did wrong then please tell me in detail on what to do....

Many thanks.

EDIT:
I understand that others are able to configure it with the joy to key...is it possible for you to give me the programming or teach me how to do that?

You have a joystick? Then when you start MB you can configure the controls.
If you don't, then there's an application that let's you configure the keyboard somewhere in the web, but right now I don't remember the name (MBmapkey, or something like that)

This is my set up for Joy to Key.
For Player 1:
Left-Disable
Right-Disable
Up-Disable
Down-Disable
Button1-Disable
02-Disable
03-Disable
04-f5
05-arrow-up
06-arrow-right
07-arrow-down
08-arrow-left
09-Disable
10->
11-Disable
12-K
13-J
14-<
15-M
16-N

This is for player 2
Left-Disable
Right-Disable
Up-Disable
Down-Disable
01-Disable
02-Disable
03-Disable
04-f5
05-T
06-H
07-G
08-F
09-Disable
10-V
11-Disable
12-S
13-A
14-C
15-X
16-Z
This is my own custom setting, so Square is A, Cross is B, Circle is C, Triangle is ABC, R2 is D, R1 is AD.
You can play with 2 PS3 controllers, just open MB first, plug in Sixaxis/DS3, activate it, then open JoytoKey. You can also use a regular Joystick or Gamepad, but you have to configure a keyboard set on JoyToKey for it. So I have a setting for a 10 button gamepad and a DS3. Be sure to start MB first before plugging in the controllers. Also, it is most likely the PS3 controller will be Gamepad 2 if you have a Gamepad and the PS3 controller plug in.

If JoyToKey doesn't work, I recommend Xpadder.

It has a nice GUI compared to JoyToKey, and it supports the sticks.

I did the configuration for the JoytoKey as mentioned above but it still doesn't work. Even though I set the configuration on JoytoKey, it doesn't change the fact that there are pre-set internal configs for MeltyBlood. I managed to make it work by clicking the "do not use" buttons, but I sacrificed my ex-shield button which I use...a LOT..Please if there's a way to set my Triangle, square, X, and Circle button on the PS3 remote to 5,6,7, and 8, please tell me.

Well, I've an idea of what you can do, but it's gonna take a long while, and it's not going to be pretty.

Use Mpkeycfg, a program made for making Melty Blood playable with the keyboard, and map out buttons on the keyboard to use.

Then from there, use Joy to Key to bind your PS3 controller to the Mpkeycfg keys. It's a roundabout way of doing it, so make sure to only follow these directions if you're certain there's nothing else you can do.

Link for mpkeycfg: http://files.filefront.com/mpkeycfgzip/ ... einfo.html

Also, I'm not 100% sure if this will work, but what have you got to lose, right? If these directions are insufficient for you, then PM me later and could give more details on how to do what I've suggested, no problem.

yes, that's what I mean, you've got the idea I'm trying to get across. I think it should work, but I haven't tested it myself, so I can't say for certain.

well, did it work?

Right now, It's not working, but I'm currently trying to work a way around it because I believe it can work. If I can just set the buttons right I think I can get it.

Bah, I give up. Every Configuration I make does not work for me, even when I change the keys around using mbkeycfg. I curse Melty Blood for it's pre-set configurations *shakes fist* Either way, unless I find a way to bypass it or remove it entirely I'm stuck. I can only get the analog sticks with the ex-shield, but the analog stick is way too sensitive and messes up my combos I can do easily with the d-pad. Honestly, if I tilt it up with a mess-up of around 2 degrees, it counts as a diagonal jump -.-
