[UK Windom XP] Some problems with playing on Win7

Unread postby Lotos_Alpha » December 14th, 2010, 2:46 pm

First of all, greetings.

I has installed original UK WinXP and updated with english patch. Here on Windom forums I saw a solution that allows me to play it (I has installed Japanese patch 2.008, to be more specific).

First trouble:
Image
As you can see:
1) Planet graphics doesn't shown correctly.
2) Japanese characters aren't, too.

Second trouble. Japanese patch has extracted all the files it contains to the main game's folder and hasn't sorted them in subfolders. So I don't know, which file belongs to where.

Accordingly, I has troubles with new Linux Mecha (for example, her coat and hair are on her heel instead of being on right place). I has discovered more frames (two, to be more specific), and they are absolutely identical to their precursor.

Also I have one strange, empty map, without preview image and any surface to stand.

Could someone please tell me how to fix those bugs?

Ah, and also I have a troubles with selecting one of the main menu's points. The game is simply shutting down.

I will be very grateful to anyone who could help.

First, let me clarify a few things. The "patch" that we made is actually not a patch, but a complete standalone release of a freeware game "Bootfighter Windom XP sp-2.NET" which is the predecessor of the commercial game "Ultimate Knight Windom XP" which has been translated into English by the company Curious Factory. As such, Bootfighter Windom XP sp-2.NET and Ultimate Knight Windom XP need to be installed into separate folders as they are two different games.

You can get the English patch for Ultimate Knight Windom XP from this page: http://homepage3.nifty.com/alexholth/ukwindomxp/download2.html

However, I don't know if this patch will change the Japanese version of the game into the English version, so you might need to acquire the English version instead.

If you have UAC enabled (which is most likely), after downloading the English patch, you will need to right-click on patch1.009_eng.exe and select "Run as administrator", then click OK at the prompt. Then you will need to select the folder where Ultimate Knight Windom XP is installed, which is most likely somewhere in the "Program Files" folder or "Program Files (x86)" if you're using Windows 7 x64, then click "インストール" (the left button at the bottom of the window) to install.

On a side note, mirror moon has nothing to do with "Ultimate Knight Windom XP", and as such would prefer not to provide tech support for this game. If you have any questions about this game, it might be better to leave them on the official Ultimate Knight Windom XP forums located here: http://curiousfactory.com/games/forum/index.php?board=3.0

Of course, any questions about "Bootfighter Windom XP sp-2.NET" are welcome. Just don't expect a quick reply. ^^;

Well, let me clarify things that you already did. It will allow us to avoid any misunderstandings.

I am talking about original game, not Bootfighter Windom. Believe me, I know the difference well - I've played both.

And all troubles that I enumerated is about original Ultimate Knight Windom XP. I has posted my topic here because your forums is the only one English source of info about this game. If there any other, please give me a URL.

Edit: This 2.008 patch is also known as 'Power-Up kit'.

Heh, you're quick to respond. Please re-read the above post for further information.
Also, I think that the Power-Up Kit only works in the Japanese version of the game as there is no "(English version)" download link.

By the way, Bootfighter Windom came out first. :P

I'm trying to be polite. Thank you for your answer. I hope it will be useful.
As for Boothfighter Windom, I pity that this hasn't such a system of powerups, more maps and Mechas... you know... =)

Edit: P-Up Kit is a something like beta-patch. It does work, but with bugs that I has mentioned already.

Edit 2: "Run as administrator" doesn't help at all. It still don't allow me to choose the folder to patch.

That's strange. Maybe you could try using a program like WinRAR or 7-Zip to extract the files into a subfolder, and then drag 'n drop all the folders (Game, Manual and Server) from that subfolder into the Ultimate Knight Windom XP installation folder and overwrite the files.

I has already checked it by WinRAR.
Really strange, but files are unsorted at all. So I really confused about how to deal with it. =\

Hmm, I repacked the 1.009 English patch into three different archives. If one doesn't extract properly, try the other ones.

http://mbac.mirrormoon.org/temp/patch1.009_eng.7z
http://mbac.mirrormoon.org/temp/patch1.009_eng.rar
http://mbac.mirrormoon.org/temp/patch1.009_eng.zip

If none of these work properly, all I can suggest is to try a different archiving tool. :/

Edit: Download links working properly now. :v

I can repack and upload that if you want, but first can you download one of the archives and tell me which ones extract properly? I'll repack the 2.008 Japanese patch with the same archive format.

.rar Archive has been successfully downloaded and it's structure hasn't been ruined.

Oh wow, now I see what you were talking about. I opened the 2.008 patch and there aren't any subdirectories. That's really strange.
Anyway, repacking it here would be useless, but I did find something useful in the patch files.
I found a file list which tells you where each of the files are supposed to be installed.

You can find it here: http://mbac.mirrormoon.org/temp/filelist.txt

The 2.008 patch will need to be extracted to a subfolder, and then you'll need to make the new subfolders that appear in the file list and move all the files into those new subfolders. Some files will need to be renamed too.

For example:

96=1|0|%InstallDir%|Game\Robo\KD-08_7|charaselect1.sdt||charaselect.sdt|0|0|511|0,0,0,0,0,0,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,||||||||||

This means you'll have to make the subfolder "Game\Robo\KD-08_7", then move "charaselect1.sdt" into that subfolder and then rename "charaselect1.sdt" to "charaselect.sdt".
After you've created all the necessary subfolders, and moved and renamed all the files that are needed, just drag 'n drop all the subfolders into the Ultimate Knight Windom XP installation directory and it "should" work. It's time-consuming, but unless you can find someone who has already done this and uploaded an archive somewhere, this is the only way. ^^;
