You cracked the encryption! :o

:D, do tell.

Edit: Never mind, I figured it out. But please be sure to enlighten the people who haven't figured it out yet.

Wild guess, Hex editing?

Please do tell, I don't know how did you do this myself 8) I want to give the Windom Blackcomb some explosion weapon and removing his(almost)useless trap laser A.K.A replace it with rail cannon.

i can't really tell what you did(because all mech looked alike and i can't really distinguish them from each other) but reading the posts of other people had made it clear for me

so this is like changing the looks and the weapons of your mech right?

so how did you do it?

The first screenshot shows a blackcomb with a shield, Blackcomb doesn't have a shield but a reflector/mirror skin to reflect lasers.

Right, I got it how to do this but it's very difficult and frustrating in other words it is done by trial and error, I managed to crash the game because I ruined some files but I make backups anyway.

Here are the steps

1)Make a copy of the Robo folder(Very important!)
2)Move the script.ani and script.spt file from KD-07(or whatever you want) to another KD suit
3)Open the game and check out the difference
4)You might want to experiment with the text files as well like shield01 or etc... so far I haven't managed to edit the moves as I suspect they are hardcoded in the script files and I don't know how to edit those as they are encrypted

The mech editing is very limited and I didn't find out how to change weapons like giving the blackcomb a different weapon, I managed to give it anturiums weapons however but thats it, If someone knows how to do this please post it.

Yes, plus the effects are only on the client side. Meaning unless you have a friend with the same customization you've done. its gonna look the same. Still, I believe we are one step closer to having customized mech's, we just need someone thats good at coding and understands hex so we can make mod's for it:D

Edit: And btw, its useless trying to add another mech to the game, as the client only counts the mechs that are suppose to be in the game. Your custom creation won't show up unless you modify one of the existing mechs.

Here's my customized version of the Windom XP, It has the legs and arms from 2k, Beam Rifle from the SP1, the Buster Sword from the Blackcomb and the Shield from the BlackSelena.

I Nicknamed it, The XP SuperCustom.

I think there might be a way to change the attacks and attributes if we edit the script files, but there encoded in hex. If anyone can understand hex here it would be appreciated.

Can't wait til someone finds out or write a tool/hack to edit moves and change their weapons :D This is the beginning of bootfighter modding.

sorry for the late reply folks, i kinda had trouble getting my hands on a pc...

anyway...

what i showed you guys is actually a windom vista, yes.. I simply used blackcomb's "skins" (which are basically .x files) so heres what i did..

1. create a backup of your robo folder(just in case)
2. choose a mech; we need 2 mechs, a "subject" mech(KD-06 vista) and a "reference" mech(KD-07 Blackcomb)
3. copy ALL the .x (just the .x files 'kay?) files of KD-07(robo\kd-07) into KD-06 (replace all)
4. run windom xp.exe and viola, you have a custom"Blackcomb-vista windom"
5. feel free to experiment ;p

its just like what lavaball said...

unfortunately it doesnt change attacks like what most of you people think, I think it has something to do with the 2 script files(but just simply editing them crashes the game :( )

edit: btw, i used windom2k-sp1's shield for my screenshot, just so it wont be too obvious that its actually a vista

well then, shall we make this the (un)official custom-mech thread?

Every mech has those files. Moving or copying those to another KD-__ folder showed no apparent difference to any given mecha/suit in the select screen, and after choosing everything else, it crashes while loading. That's the difference; I don't have a working BFW game. But given that I also followed #1 in the directions I can fix that in short order.

I did something similar with the maps; I replaced the first city map with the Battle Tactics version of the map:

Now, I just saw that Logtaga has posted another recent post as I was uploading the pictures of what I did (I don't think it's anything new though; stage-replacing), so maybe I'll have better luck with his suggestions.

Oops, sorry, i barely read lavaball's steps that i didn't notice he was talking about moving the script files.. anyway, i suggest you start tweaking only the .x files because they're alot safer than the script files..

and about the maps, i tried that before, changing the folder names, i wanted to use stage 2 for blitz tactics(you know,, lag reduction), unfortunately, it has an invisible "arena wall" that prevents me from landing on the ground, so its kinda hard to play..
