My Super Robot Wars Alpha Translation Project

Unread postby Raides F Branstein » November 28th, 2005, 1:59 am

Yeah, I'm finally going to attempt it, to do what has never been done before, translate Super Robot Wars Alpha, a task tried and failed by so many people. But I'm finally going to do it, I'm going to translate it and I don't care if it takes years to do it, but I'm going to translate it, fully and completely. Sure, it's going to take a long time to do and there's a VERY LARGE ammount of script to translate, but I'm not going to let that intimidate, the other people who tried translating it might of, but I will not give up, if people keep attempting Alpha and keep giving up, it will never get done. The projects in its very early stages right now and not much is really translated at the moment. Right now, all we really have translated so far is some of the Character Creation Menu and some of the song names in Sound Select, so yes, it's very early into the project and not much is done. I'm looking for a few people to help with this project, I'll need someone who knows how to hack PSX games and probably, a backup translator and don't join if you know you won't be able to put a lot of time into this project, I don't care if you're the BEST damn translator/hacker, don't sign up if you know you might leave eventually, since, while I know a lot of Japanese, I often get stuck on context. So, like I said, not much is done right, but as this project progresses, I'll be sure to keep you updated. Here's what I have done so far, like I said earlier, not much:

Aren't we full of our selves ^^

I haven't seen this game before, but if it's worth translating it should be good :) gl

That's not being full of myself, it's just the truth. A lot of people had made attempts at translating it, but has anyone ever gotten it done? No.

A few name and attack translations from the prologue:
Mech: RX-7 Naushika
Pilot: タカヤノリコ Noriko Takaya
Attacks: ランセー Lance
プラズマビアンキ Plasma Lancer
イナズマキック Lightning Kick
イナズマ反転キック Lightning Inversion Kick

Mech: RX-7 Zizel
Pilot: アマノカズミ Kazumi Amano
Attacks: ランセー Lance
プラズマビアンキ Plasma Lancer
イナズマキック Lightning Kick
イナズマ反転キック Lightning Inversion Kick

Have yet to get Jung and Tashiro's stats, also, I've never actually seen the Gunbuster series, so if I made a translation mistake, be sure to correct me.

I was joking. It's just the way you chose to write it. It's like, "To go where no man has gone before!"

Sounds kinda pretentious, don't you think? :)

If anyone still comes here, the project has come a long way since the last time I've updated. A lot of text has been translated but so far, only the prologue stage has actually been reinserted, but I'll keep you guys updated as the project progresses.

And for your veiwing pleasure, a few screens of what's been reinserted so far.

I replaced the use of "Giant alien race" with "Zentradi" to save space.

Uploaded a movie of the prologue stage in full English. Sorry there's no sound, my recording plug-in doesn't support it.

Hey, nice. Looks like this project is actually getting somewhere. Unlike the other ones I've seen  *hint hint nudge nudge*.

Like Ryuusoul said, best of luck, you're going to need it to prevent your brain from bursting from a gigantic job like this XD.
