Contracts with the World

So with who ARE they being made?

I mean, Counter Guardians, as in the guys who made the contract, are part of Alaya. Yet the contract is with the World(Gaia).

No sense made, especially since Gaia and Alaya are semi-hostile towards one another(has something to do with humans slowly destroying the planet).

Gaia and Alaya are two-facets of the same entity. They are both the will of the Planet Earth. Gaia strives for the survival of the planet, Alaya strives for the survival of mankind. Normally the two balances out and reaches an equilibrium. If one is overpowering the other, that is when the counter forces of each side are unleashed, e.g. Counter Guardians, Primate Murderer, etc.

You are right about the "World Pact", it is made between an individual and Alaya.

So... To put it in simple terms, you can think of Planet Earth as a Schizophrenic, dual personality.

Alaya is NOT part of Gaia. It is the universal consciousness of humanity, and would continue to exist regardless of the planet's existance.

I drew my interpretation from Fuyuki's description:
Fuyuki wrote:
Alaya, the prayer for the avoidance of destruction wished by man.
Gaia, the prayer for the continuation of life willed by the planet.
Alaya seems to be more of a sub-system of the world presiding over humans specifically instead of an all-together separate system.

This makes sense logically. What you have said is true, but there is more to it.

Originally, when humanity was still in it's infancy, Alaya might've been part of Gaia. But humanity is now too developed as a race to be reliant on Gaia(not the planet, but rather it's will) so Alaya split off from Gaia.

Please cite your source, because I have not seen it stated thus from anywhere. Personal extrapolation do not contribute to the topic when discussing canon materials.

Basing it off common sense. Should've mentioned that.

What you're suggesting may make sense, Solar, but it doesn't say anywhere that that's happened. Besides, how dependent we are on the planet or its will is a matter of opinion, specifically Nasu's opinion.

Regardless, I'm pretty sure the World Contracts are made with Alaya. Alaya deploys the Counter Guardians, whether as actual individual entities or as a source of energy, to kill large numbers of people with the goal in mind of saving the larger mass of humanity. Amputating the arm to save the body, sacrificing the few to save the many, etc.
