Darker Than Black [Spoilers I would think]

Unread postby Beowulf Lee » June 22nd, 2007, 5:55 am

Is anyone watching this show? If you're not, I would suggest giving it ago. It's by far my favorite show this season, and if I may be so opinionated, the best new show. It's quite original in a way, as Bones has a knack for doing; storytelling wise, it always leaves you wanting to know more, since you really can't predict what's going to happen next or even what's going on at the moment you're watching it. Another attractive feature is the seriousness that the story takes, (a feature the anime industry seems to ignore) so far lacking completely of cute air headed girls...well, all but one pink haired one (who's not a main character anyway). I'm really hoping though, that Bones doesn't pull a Eureka 7 twist esque twist in the end, completely negating everything building up.

The good:
The main character is Chinese and he's not portrayed as a scheming evil doer. Now that's amazing (for anime).
The main chix0r Amber is hawt.
Two episode arc format, so if you're bored with one arc, it ends after the next episode.

Quibs I have with the show:
No speed subbers. :(
A lot of evil doers in the show just happen to be Chinese...
Two episode arc format makes the show more predictable.
The main chix0r Amber who is hawt has yet to say anything in the show.
Needs more hawt chix0rz.

Random trivia:
It's funny how Firefox's spell check doesn't mark "chix0rz" as spelled wrong.

That is bad? Man, kids these days >.>;

At any rate, I'm enjoying the show, although that was predictable as it is a BONES production. I like the dark theme, something which is rather rare.

I just really hope they don't pull another Wolf's Rain and make the last couple of episodes DVD only ><

Holy crap, are you serious?! Wait...
The last scene in the latest episode I saw showed the wolves in the human forms running around in the newly made world. Is that the last last episode of the OVA?

Yeah, that were the DVD only eps.

WR had 30 eps. 1-26 were aired on tv (with 4 recap episodes... god knows why) while the last 4 episodes were released on 2 seperate DVDs months later.

I'm watching it but it's not my favorite show of the season.

It's a faction heavy title: Contractors, Police, other more general villains.

Thus far it's enjoyable when the male lead is on but the other halves seem to be like watching filler episodes sometimes. So it's an iffy title for me yet: kind of like Bakumatsu was before it yet I kept watching.

So for my dark content, I'm sticking more with Claymore.

Claymore seems to be pretty popular, but the generic monster hunting thing just doesn't work for me. I simply hate canon fodder.

It appeared to be as generic at the start. But it quickly detours. It's more in the vain of Berserk now.

There's substantial differences.

Personally, I think it pulled off what Berserk attempted to do without the Berserk style.

However, I wished to avoid saying it was better because of the chance of.....

His sword is something akin to that (the later one). It's called the Dragon slayer. Much longer than Cloud's and far heavier. *shrugs* In Claymore....they just wield big claymores.

DtB is great, but yeah. Claymore is much better.
Either Claymore or sola are my favorites for this season.
