I beg to differ. Lyrics are that which gives the song direction; and without lyrics the song has no true message to convey it's meaning. Unless it's something like BGM of course.

Didn't notice you replied @_@

I don't mean you should ignore lyrics, I'm just saying the music makes up a very large portion of a song. You can have music without the lyrics, but lyrics without the music don't work too well. Well, it can, but the lyrics then become the music as well. Lyrics give songs direction, but without the song, the lyrics are leading nowhere (or something like that)

it's natural for 'em to say that; lyrics are the soul of the musics, and if you cannot understand the soul, the music will be pretty lifeless...
even if you translate the words, they cannot convey the true nature and meaning of the music...

so, musics without lyrics are just lifeless entertainment(not to mention bgms, cause in bgms, you only need to feel the rhythms :) )

btw, i'm currently into some old disney musics and theme songs :D

this is just a summary of my opinion about music vs lyrics (or whatever)

1. they both contribute to the awesomeness of a song

2. music without lyrics can still work, but lyrics without music is poetry, or rap.

3. a good song does not need "deep" lyrics because it gives room for the tunes, tones, and rhythm of the instrumentals to express the meaning of the song, along with the emotions that may come with it.

4. a song with "deep" lyrics will still suck if it doesn't sound good.

so in my opinion, lyrics are of less importance.

EDIT: i randomed through my playlist 20 times and it landed on the vines - get free

Yeah, listen to the guy with a guitar for an avatar =P

Well, I didn't know this would be such a controversial topic  . Music itself can tell a story without the use of lyrics, that's why I believe music is more important.

You guys listen to the F/SN anime and F/SN RN BGM? I find it pretty good

Kawai Kenji - Fuyuki Enkei

that's true. stories that are told without lyrics can be much more expressive, and subjective at the same time.
this way, instead of following the defined meanings by the lyrics, or trying to decipher the hidden meanings in lyrics, we can feel the song according to our own interpretation, as well as the emotions that we feel from the tune and rhythm.

there's always two sides to everything.. but if any of you insist that lyrics are much more important, i'll summon beethoven as my archer class servant and decapitate you with his piano strings.

L'arc~en~Ciel - Daybreak's Bell. Cannot get that song out of my head... The song is simply awesome!! This is really a new kind of song from Laruku, and it really matches Gundam 00.

And, yeah... Dango Dango Daikazoku... That too.

Also, The Click Five. Their 2 album is really funny, it's like hearing boyband in real band format..

And Of course.... Yellowcard's new album, Paperwall. Great Album, nothing else to say.

Nope, is it good?? Not crappy like the one Mikuru sang in the original one??

Since we touch that anime, Has anyone ever heard Hare Hare Yukai sang by Kyon?? for me that's the funniest one, especially if you imagine Kyon's face while singing it.. Which version you REALLY think the best? (i don't wanna hear any haruhi fan shout "Hirano Aya's!!" while rolling their eyes.. 8) )

I've linked the song already, so all you needed to do to listen to it was click =P. If you think Kyon's version of Hare Hare Yukai was funny, check out his other sung song: Ore no Wasuremono -Kanzenban- (note the link)
