It's typical fantasy fare. Personally, I feel it has its charm anime wise though. Like an odd harem show with a greater story line beyond love. The monster designs aren't that great, but the characters themselves are enjoyable.

As with most anime it's best to sample the first episode or two.

I actually just finished Kanon 2006 myself. I thought it was really well done, much better than shuffle! at least. Each character was given enough time and background to give them some real depth, even the supporting characters.

On Shining Tears, is the plot line much different than the game? I didn't even know they had made an anime about it.

Shana looks interesting to me, been debating on what to watch next though. I enjoyed Kanon so much, I just feel that I would put anything I watch right now down by comparison. I don't like those prejudgements though, so I am taking a little break to let it wear off =/

Well, Neige just appeared in the last episode so I can't say too much on her. I like her VA since I feel it fits the role.

I haven't played the game so I can't really compare plots.

As for Shana, it's supposed to be great from all I've heard. Personally, the loli bit was what made it more desired, I think. I have to see it yet myself.

It's true, Kanon has a pretty good storyline. Go see AIR if you haven't. I think it had an even stronger ending...

Personally, I think Shana is awesome. It has a decent storyline, some incest, couple of lolis, the obligatory quadriple d-cup blonde. It has all that but it doesn't hold a candle to what Kanon had to offer.

AIR? Gao-girl? It was nice but...I disliked the ending.
► Show Spoiler
I was given Shana to watch now rather. It's not bad from the first three episodes, but I don't see an obsessive quality to it. It's somewhat dark thus far. Zero no Tsukaima is often labeled the "new" Shana but it's a comedy. I liked that much better. But perhaps my mind will change later---right now Shana is giving me a Rozen Maiden meets Bleach vibe.

I hear too much about Code Geass... but I'll think I'll wait till the series end(did it already?) before trying it, I usually don't like mecha shows so I'm avoiding it as long as I can

I don't like mechas either, but I severely enjoyed CG.

Anyway, CG didn't actually end. For some reason the last two epsidoes will be aired sometime in June, IIRC. And even after that, a second season is already planned. So if you want to watch it, you might as well get it now before it gets licensed.

I'm not watching any particular series right now, but just recently finished Koi Kaze and I'm surprised that no one mentioned it in this topic. That's one great drama anime, definitely recommended for everyone. Even if they find the idea of incest disgusting...
