It is.

But the posts about the card not going well with the Crysis beta says something...

Its Oblivion again. Unless, of course, they optimized the final product.

Yeah, but Oblivion sucked so that's a moot point. Anyways, having a kickass computer is more about brag points and being future proof rather than needing to play current games.

Kinda pointless.

When I said "Its Oblivion again", I mean its another game that is so advance in graphics that no graphics card to date can support it.

Well, that video card isn't very good. You should probably switch out for something like a 7600. If you like I'll trade mine :)

Hahaha, cmon ppl, i at least know how to COUNT.

If this X-Fi is a Fatal1ty or beyond that, I'll hate j00 even moar. :D

Its an Xtreme Gamer, whatever that means lol. Since I work at a Hi-Fi store (which my mother owns), my brother was going to plug it into an actual home cinema system in our room (think we'll use that amp we won from YAMAHA)...... Yea, its a bit hardcore

Xavier wrote:Damn, guys. You're all spending too much on parts that you don't really need to play the latest games.

I mean, come on, buying an 8800? What do you need it for? Crysis? It's just a damn FPS. =p

Haha, actually my brother was wanting a comp just for the sake of gaming. I personally think he went a little bit overboard as well

In essence, all you need is like a 24/30 inch LCD monitor, a bunch of 7.1 speakers, and Vista Ultimate (or in some people's case, XP), and you pretty much have a PC that will make quite a lot of people drool after.

Including me.

Well, my screen can only be up to 20", cause the tiny table is that size, so it ain't ultimate yet ><

marus wrote:Not quite, the 8800Ultra is one step higher, though it's basically just the same card but clocked faster. And yes, I was pulling your leg... and I would've gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for you meddling kids.

Haha i better not tell my brother about that too, or else he'd get it (seriously)

Thanks for helping me out with my comp specs guys, i really appreciated your help! (cept marus's help...... nah jks =P)

EDIT: The sentence about the screen

for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."]

Holy crap. Xtreme Gamer is GOOD. I hate j00 2.

Eek. Got to get back to staying on top of the trends again...

Oops. >.< Guess I'd better stay out of marus' way; wouldn't want a guy whom i cost an 8800 on my back XD

I've made a couple upgrades in my desktop, and replaced my laptop, both of which warrant a new post:

Main computer, Ria:
processor - Intel Core 2 Duo 3.12 GHz (overclocked, stock is 2.13 GHz)
ram - 2 gig DDR2 800
hard drive #1 - 320 GB, 7200 RPM
hard drive #2 - 80 GB, 7200 RPM
video card - nvidia 8800gt 512MB
operating system - Windows XP Home sp2

Labtop, niharu_v3.0 Toshiba:
processor - Intel Core Duo 1.73 GHz
ram - 1 gig DDR 666
hard drive - 120 GB, 5400 RPM
video card - intel integrated 224 MB
operating system - Windows Vista Home Premium

I also got a new 22" monitor to complement my new video card in the desktop (was considering a 24", but I'd have a hard time making space for it on my desk, and IMO it wouldn't be worth the extra 100-200 dollars for an extra 2 inches of screen). I was gonna get a new Core 2 Quad processor and Vista for my desktop too, but some car trouble forced me to choose between those or the monitor. And since at that time I already had the video card, and it'd be pointless without something nice to push it with...

Well, next upgrade should be a sound card anyways, but it'll have to wait a while.

From what I've heard so far the 9600s are a bit behind the Q6600s, and are about the same price; I'd say a Core 2 Quad would be a better choice for now, if you want a quad core.

CPU - Athlon 2000+
RAM - 512MB Mushkin! PC2700
Hard Drive - 200GB Seagate 7200 RPM ATA133
Video Card - GeForce 6200 128MB (RIP Radion 9700 Pro)
OS - Windows XP Pro SP2
Media Drive - NEC ND3500AG DVD-/+R/RW 16X

And crap hooked to it.

I've finally upgrade my machine to something newer. I wish i had more money to spend, but my old machine finally started taking a shit...

CPU - Athlon Operton 170 (Socket 939)
Motherboard: ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 - THE LIVING LEGEND!
RAM - 512MB Mushkin! PC2700
Hard Drive - 200GB Seagate 7200.9 RPM ATA133 + 250GB Seagate 7200.10 RPM ATA133
Video Card - GeForce 6200 128MB AGP (PCIe upgrade available)
OS - Windows XP Pro SP2 (Vista can suck my b@11z)
Media Drive - NEC ND3500AG DVD-/+R/RW 16X

The best part about this mobo is the riser board I can use to install a socket AM2 and DDR2 ram... but I'm probably not going to bother with it since i want to migrate to an Intel platform (unless AMD picks up the pace, but that will probably be another 2 years -_-)

I really need to upgrade the RAM and the video card, but I'm going to hold off until after January.

 that's possible?! I should try overclocking my PC one day. I have the same stock GHz so.. maybe.

(so I can play those resource hogging games of today)

With most core 2 duo you can onverclock to 2/3 or sometime even 100% more of the core clock, provided you have really good cooling and a badass motherboard.

well, one of my friends had a laptop he got mad at (dunno why, actually) and he -punched- it...you heard me...he actually broke the keyboard, killed the HD controller and fried the HDD itself...talk about needing some anger management. he was about to throw it out when i told him i'd want it, since i am a computer geek and all...so after ebaying myself a replacement for the controller and hd, soldering a few connections on the punched-in keyboard, it's now again fully functionnal...and for about 115 bucks, i got myself quite a respectable machine actually...here goes:

toshiba satellite a-100
Intel? Core? Duo T2050 clocked at 1.6Ghz 2Mb cache
533fsb chipset Intel? 945PM Express
2x 512Mb ddr2 533mhz for a total of 1gb ram
dual layer dvd burner with dvd ram compatibility
the only downside: Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express video card...that's right. a dual core machine crippled by an onboard intel card. i'd rather have a geforce 4 card dammit...
the stock hd was an 80gb sata at 5200rpm, but i replaced it with a 200gb sata 7200rpm hd.
sound card's not really worth mentioning, but it gets the job done.
wireless 802.11g, 10-100 internal network cards there's a modem in it too...

i know i could just have taken a new keyboard from ebay as well since they cost about 20-40 bucks max, but the curve in the middle of the keyboard from the punch somehow has some charm. getting it towork again was also pretty challenging, but whenever someone sees my laptop, i always get asked about if the curve in the middle is normal...and then i can tell this story about how i fixed this laptop over and over again... i'll post a pic of it later.
