I had my doubts at first, since it seems that the PS3 is highly favored on this forum but what the hell. This is not some "<console#1> is better than <console#2>" article. It's about Nintendo's strategy.
It's a long article, but it's worth a read.
Nintendo has a (apparently, fairly high) chance of beating the other 2 companies by "escalating tiers". I'm not posting this for fanboy comments, but to see different points of view as to what they are doing and thoughts about what they can do.
I have to say that I wouldn't be surprised if that happens, since Nintendo has dominated those... "lower tiers" (like said in the article) while the competitors haven't shown enough (or any) interest in them. Hardcore games have been appearing on the Wii, even if little by little. I won't even mention the DS since there's no need to. So I just have to wonder, will everything play their way? As of now, it seems so. But who knows?
Now this part is just me being an ass so don't take it all too seriously:
I'd actually love that the other 2 competitors get the shit beaten out of them. It would be hilarious that they, keeping the secure, easy route for cash that hardcore games are thought to be would loose to Nintendo, which happened to go another way and has been bashed once and again by hardcore gamers. This comes from a player that spends about 60% of his playing time on his Xbox 360, and the rest on both PC and Wii and wants a PS3. No hard feelings for either companies, I'd simply laugh my ass off.
