Not getting my Elixirs.

Mainly, I'm looking for VN's ot hold me off until release.

I've already read so many...

I've got two right now, Eldelweiss(Which I beat one route of it...and the story stays the same no matter the route...except the girl you sleep with) and that Wanko game(But I got to a part where it isn't translated...so yeah)

Both were fun, but didn't quite get me in the mood...like games like FS/N or Tsukihime do. (They captured my attention, but only for brief periods of time, Type-moons games and games like Utaw immerse me in the world and I ignore everything else)

I checked Visual Novel Database for VN's that are English translated or have translation patches released and I haven't really found anything worthwhile...I've read the good ones already, I think.

If you are looking for a good one try CHAOS;HEAd, but be warned, it will cause one of two feelings toward the main character. Either pity/sadness or just plain hate. There is also some gore in to aswell. Otherwise it is an awesome VN.

And on topic, Good Luck mirrormoon. Keep up the good work, and I hope you all get some good rest when it is finished.

Edit: removed part that obviously belonged to the HF progress topic, where this was split off from ^^;

I myself essentially just got into the VN thing. Tsukihime was my very first VN, which I stumbled upon earlier this year out of sheer curiosity, and needless to say I find myself to be very fortunate for that fact. Followed it up with Kagetsu Tohya, then Melty Blood. Started Fate/Stay Night a couple of weeks ago out of sheer curiosity as well, and again, I find myself very fortunate for that fact. Currently working on getting Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, but without an existing translation patch that I know of, it'll just be sitting there for a long while yet under the hopes of one getting released eventually.

I always thought Rider was well fleshed out enough in the other routes /badpun.

Ye, I suppose.

Also, Chaoshead isn't in English yet and the official translation patch to English is almost done, I suspect another month or two, it looks good, but considering it was ALSO released on the 360(Jock of Consoles) . . . I just don't know.

Chaosheads plot looks interesting though. To bad it's not an Eroge.(I just feel a game with Eroge in it is abit more adult and mature of a storyline...regardless of the fact you could take out all the sex in Type-moons work and most visual novels and it would hardly effect the game at all, most, but not all)

Before Tsukihime...

I think "True Love" was my first, if people consider that a Visual Novel...I quit after a few minutes(Younger back then, was just in a rush, I later completed it though, enjoyed)then DYLHB2, kudos to anyone who gets that, and I found myself actually caring for the characters, which was confusing to me(Once again, I was young, how could I imagine caring about something OTHER than me?:O) Then I played Critical Point, and Dividead, I believe, I actually liked those. I also recently played Lets Meow Meow, and despite being pretty much a purely sexual game, some of the characters, actually, only one, the "Flag" girl, say to speak, the cat gal you get in the beginning, I cared about, the rest were sluts, even yer child hood friend!)

Pretty much though, Tsukihime(I liked Kagestu, but honestly, it got me in the mood on occasion, but felt far to rushed to really get me into it), Utware, and Fate / Stay Night, are the best Visual Novels I've read to date(I really regret Bible Black, I mean, it had animes and other games and it was really popular, and I knew it was a pretty sexual game, but I mean, it just became so retarded I had a hard time finishing)

Planetarian is one I plan to do someday, I played the demo and loved it, but when I read how short it is, my heart kind of sank.(I love sitting down for a good read for like a week and just burning through a story)

I hope F/HA is translated quickly though, I want more of Nasu. I read alot of books in libraries and such, when I read alot of books also, but I can hardly remember the authors names unless I google it. I don't know Nasu's full name, but if I was asked my favorite author, it'd have to be him. People say he's insane, but look at what history has shown, every "Genius", was insane. Ol' Albert was a clepto who tried to marry his daughter. Most of the brilliant men throughout history have had tendencies outside the norm, but it's part of their Genius? I guess, I don't know...but all I know is, I've never met someone who was a true "Genius"(Not just book smarts, you can't be a genius just by having book smarts), but could change the world with their ideas.

I think my list of completed VN's so far is:
True Love
Paradise Heights 1 and 2
Dividead
Darling (although I couldn't find a translation for it anywhere, so I assumed there was none and just clicked away for CG's)
The Maiden Rape Assault (if you don't know, don't ask...>.>)
Bible Black
Tsukihime
Kagetsu Tohya
DYLHB 2 (I haven't played 1 yet, though I've been meaning to for a good while now)
The Sagara Family (really liked this one, had a little bit of everything, which made it refreshing)
Runaway City
Three Sister's Story
Season of the Sakura
Nocturnal Illusion
Fate/Stay Night (with the obvious exception of the HF route, just to keep things on topic)

I know there are a few more that should be in there, but I can't remember for the life of me what they are at the moment...

Worth it.

I've played Nocturnal Illusion(Never beat it, I don't know why, I really liked all the stuff in it, was creepy)

The Sagara Family...yes, it's a purely H-VN that I actually grew to like the characters in.

Season of Sakura...I started it, but it just seemed so bad about 10 minutes in, I quit.

You HAVE to play Nocturnal Illusion, it's a really great game, for such a small size!

I recommend this, late at night, when it's pitch black, no lights, TV< or anything on except the Monitor, and turn the Volume WAY UP! You'll freak the fudge out.

I have, and I'd agree that it was pretty good. And I definitely agree on the Uncle point. I also like the relationship with your father. It's the most dis-functional family ever. The combination of those two characters made Saki's ending one of the most epic endings out of any VN I've ever read. Though after doing that route first I was disappointed on the other routes. While they were still fairly good, they didn't quite match up with Saki's.

In any case, my collection of VNs(or other games of a similar nature), with a rough rating is as follows:

Fate/Stay Night --- 9/10 --- Only rated this low to differentiate it from Tsukihime.
Tsukihime --- 9.5/10 ---The only thing holding back on the 10/10 is the awkward sex scenes. Still need to find a non-bako version, though I might have to resist that. Looks like it's going to cost an arm and a leg.
Kagetsu Tohya --- 7.5/10 --- Really good, but I found the looping day to be really annoying and ended up having to use a walkthrough.
Edelweiss --- (TBD) --- So far, it's pretty good, though the translation is extremely awful. I'd say 6 for now, maybe 8 with a good translation.
Snow Sakura --- 7/10 --- Pretty good, there's a few really interesting characters.
Utawarerumono --- 8.5/10 --- Really enjoyed the combat system.
Heart de Roommate --- 6/10 --- Meh... While somewhat interesting, I found large portions of this game gave me the same incomplete feeling I find filler episodes of anime give me.
Yume Miru Kusuri --- 8/10 --- All the routes are very interesting and extremely unique, I was actually disappointed in the lack of a Hirofumi route(Though I would have to have skipped all the sex scenes...)
One ~To the Radiant Season~ --- 7/10 --- This game had some interesting ending/characters. I would have rated it higher if the story was fleshed out a little more.
Amorous Professor Cherry --- 5/10 --- Too much sex, too little story.
The Sagara Family --- 6/10 --- Some routes were fairly good, though this games loses points for the same reason as Amorous Professor Cherry.
Wanko to Kurasou --- 7/10 --- I expect this to rank higher with the release of the Risa route, I was disappointed with Nadeshiko's ending... Though even with the dodgy ending, I really enjoyed it.

Except for Edelweiss(In which I've only completed a single route) I've played them all completely. All of them worth the money I spent. The collection is a few games bought from random translation companies, as well a what I've managed to get a Japanese friend to grab me whenever he visits home.

Currently I'm only looking for a copy of F/HA and maybe an original non-bako version of Tsukihime, though both are pretty hard to come by, especially Tsukihime.

You're better off skipping it. It's not even remotely as interesting as people remember it to be. Basically it's a flat, boring story with awful porn content...

Liar. It's a great game, it makes you think.

Heart De Roomate, I played that also, I think I did two or three routes, but then I was just like "Eh...why am I playing this?" lol.

Wano to Kursasou, I keep getting Risa's route no matter the choices I make, I even used the FAQ. I'll have to wait for full translation, but so far, it's good! The main character for once, turns out to be extremely interesting.(His past is very unusual for a VN character, but at least it explains why he's a Sex God, unlike other VNs where the guy can preform every sexual act in the book like a pro and he's a Virgin)

One ~ To a ration season? I thought of that, I'll look at it again.

Chaoshead is 95%. so close, I've read up on the game and despite it being an Eroge, it looks insanely awesome. I'm really looking froward to the translation and I hope it's great. The game is supposed to be 30-50 hours long, like Tsukihime...but the translation only took a few months, I've heard? Do they have some huge team working on it, or is it going to be a really sloppy translated game?

Also, the hell is the Lingerie patch or something...? lol

Hell, 95% and all they are doing is looking for bugs now, how exciting. I used Atlas and checked out some of the demo, and it seemed cool, but it was so poorly translated(Due to Atlas and it's major suck factor), that I didn't wanna continue to much in, but I liked the intro alot.

^

95.01% sure that Chaos;Head is not an eroge (It's listed as 15+, afaik)

Also, a large portion of the script IS hosted on the project page (pre-QC'd?). You can check that out and decide whether or not their translation is sloppy (Looks okay to me)

Yeah, it's not an eroge. The underwear patch will replace all the female character with ones that are just wearing underwear...

And the translation is alright.

I meant to say "Not being an Eroge" I muxed it up.

Underwear patch, huh...I see. Would kind of ruin the seriousness...oh well.

They have a beta patch with all of it translated, but I hear it's not been Quality Checked and there are tons of bugs and issues...so I'll wait for the full thing.

I imagine the Underwear patch will be great my second time through though. :P
