Wow, that makes me feel less bad about not using Serene. I always use Ein Mia*I think...she was the only healer* and the girl I was trying to get the ending with. Only twice have I used Serene, in her play through*third* and in the first one because I needed a third person, and the others sucked at that point. Also,
fighting the final boss without a healer is NOT FUN!

I practically never used any heal items through out the whole game, and have completed the game all S rank.

Serene should be always superior to Ecthel except for Disaresta unless you over train them to their absolute max potential. Then Ecthel > Serene. Although Fia is my fav, she is actually considered the weakest of all girls.

About Avatars, how does ciel do that with white len? the avatar keeps changing when refreshed.

My avatar is my first creation in Illustrator+GIMP.
I've used that avatar ever since.
That and the fact that I like arrows a lot.

EDIT: Oh, topic title is about the "meaning" huh. I guess it just means moving forward. Or my name, even if it doesn't actually equate to that.
idontknoW has left this forum, that is all.

and I don't find it annoying at all (it's annoying just because it's dancing?? well, I guess I'm really behind with internet phenomenons). The only rule I'm breaking is the fact that YOU DON'T LIKE IT(since Annoying is an opinion. I don't find it annoying, but I'm probably wrong, now that I broke the rules). If this stands out, then pretty much every gif avatar stands out in some way (which would have been much easier to understand, since I ALWAYS read the rules. It just happens that I don't log on to the forum for a few weeks once in a while). I don't mind getting the pic removed, but seriously, after reading the rules section once again, it feels like it's full of traps, I'm not sure I can post freely now, since I feel I'll have to check it pretty much everytime I post anything.

Feel free to point out any items you're having difficulty with understanding. Noone's ever said they didn't understand what "annoying animated avatar" meant, so we're allowed to assume that people understand what we're talking about. Also, I tend to enforce the rules more than others staff members, but that doesn't mean the rules were created by me.
Annoying is indeed an opinion, if you read it as "animated, annoying avatars". But it's meant to point out that in our view animated avatars in general are annoying. Some slightly animated avatars we're indeed tolerating, which brings us to your 'standing out' definition: As long as we don't notice the animation, there's nothing annoying about the avatar is there? Anyway, the rule itself clearly states that "avatars should be non-intrusive". Yours wasn't non-intrusive and therefore broke the rules. Yes, this is a matter of taste. But if you think your avatar was non-intrusive, consider how the forum would look if everyone used such avatars.

Einherjar wrote:

Then the fan-art forums' outta go? (and please don't tell me it's work safe. Now that you mention it, the desktop wallpapers have some adult stuff also)

All images I've seen there are directly related to Fate/stay night and Tsukihime. It's quite possible I missed some though, feel free to pm me if you find stuff that needs to be moderated away. Either way, we never said everything posted needs to be worksafe. We didn't ban underage users for no reason, you know.

Einherjar wrote:And I seriously don't remember getting my sigs/avatar removed, unless it was right after the rules change (which is really gay, since I wasn't there for the moment for it to be changed, or wasn't aware of the update).

In that case my apologies if I incorrectly complained. I recalled removing your avatar just a month or two ago... I guess I must have confused you with someone else then. Please forgive me for sounding rude. It's a weakness of mine that I sometimes forget that written words always sound more blunt than spoken ones.

I'm not quite sure how he does it, but his avatar is linked straight from his website. well i think it's his. the site must be handling the avatar swaps. basically it changes the targeted image upon each query of the server. meaning every time someone accesses or refreshes a page with his avatar on it. i don't know anything about how to do it though...i'd post where his avatar is, but I'm sure he wouldn't like that.

I don't know how Ciel's implemented his particular version, as the url for the png is constant but the image keeps changing. I know how one might try it with one type of random image script:
For example, I looked at someone's example perl, and set up the following script in a cgi-bin on some free webhost
Code: Select all
#! /usr/local/bin/perl
@files = (

The perl script file is hosted at http://balcerzakfeldspar.tripod.com/cgi ... d_image.pl , and when you put it in an image tag it will go the the address, and then the script activates, randomly chooses an image from the list you set up, and redirects to that url. At least, that's how I understand it.

Example:
Image

Edit: Apparently not all image tags like this approach. I was unaware of this.

hmmm ?

mine's written in php, so your server has to have it enabled. the extension must be that of an image file, otherwise it won't work on the forum.

i used an automated image rotator by a guy named Dan P. Benjamin. his site's gone already, so here's the code for it:

Code: Select all
<?php

/*

   AUTOMATIC IMAGE ROTATOR
   Version 2.2 - December 4, 2003
   Copyright (c) 2002-2003 Dan P. Benjamin, Automatic, Ltd.
   All Rights Reserved.

   http://www.hiveware.com/imagerotator.php

   http://www.automaticlabs.com/

   DISCLAIMER
   Automatic, Ltd. makes no representations or warranties about
   the suitability of the software, either express or
   implied, including but not limited to the implied
   warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular
   purpose, or non-infringement. Dan P. Benjamin and Automatic, Ltd.
   shall not be liable for any damages suffered by licensee
   as a result of using, modifying or distributing this
   software or its derivatives.

   ABOUT
   This PHP script will randomly select an image file from a
   folder of images on your webserver.  You can then link to it
   as you would any standard image file and you'll see a random
   image each time you reload.

   When you want to add or remove images from the rotation-pool,
   just add or remove them from the image rotation folder.

   VERSION CHANGES
   Version 1.0
      - Release version

   Version 1.5
      - Tweaked a few boring bugs

   Version 2.0
      - Complete rewrite from the ground-up
      - Made it clearer where to make modifications
      - Made it easier to specify/change the rotation-folder
      - Made it easier to specify/change supported image types
      - Wrote better instructions and info (you're them reading now)
      - Significant speed improvements
      - More error checking
      - Cleaner code (albeit more PHP-specific)
      - Better/faster random number generation and file-type parsing
      - Added a feature where the image to display can be specified
      - Added a cool feature where, if an error occurs (such as no
        images being found in the specified folder) *and* you're
        lucky enough to have the GD libraries compiled into PHP on
        your webserver, we generate a replacement "error image" on
        the fly.

    Version 2.1
        - Updated a potential security flaw when value-matching
          filenames

    Version 2.2
        - Updated a few more potential security issues
        - Optimized the code a bit.
        - Expanded the doc for adding new mime/image types.

        Thanks to faithful ALA reader Justin Greer for
        lots of good tips and solid code contribution!

   INSTRUCTIONS
   1. Modify the $folder setting in the configuration section below.
   2. Add image types if needed (most users can ignore that part).
   3. Upload this file (rotate.php) to your webserver.  I recommend
      uploading it to the same folder as your images.
   4. Link to the file as you would any normal image file, like this:

         <img src="http://example.com/rotate.php">

   5. You can also specify the image to display like this:

         <img src="http://example.com/rotate.php?img=gorilla.jpg">

      This would specify that an image named "gorilla.jpg" located
      in the image-rotation folder should be displayed.

   That's it, you're done.

*/

/* ------------------------- CONFIGURATION -----------------------

   Set $folder to the full path to the location of your images.
   For example: $folder = '/user/me/example.com/images/';
   If the rotate.php file will be in the same folder as your
   images then you should leave it set to $folder = '.';

*/

   $folder = 'folder/';

/*

   Most users can safely ignore this part.  If you're a programmer,
   keep reading, if not, you're done.  Go get some coffee.

    If you'd like to enable additional image types other than
   gif, jpg, and png, add a duplicate line to the section below
   for the new image type.

   Add the new file-type, single-quoted, inside brackets.

   Add the mime-type to be sent to the browser, also single-quoted,
   after the equal sign.

   For example:

   PDF Files:

      $extList['pdf'] = 'application/pdf';

    CSS Files:

        $extList['css'] = 'text/css';

    You can even serve up random HTML files:

       $extList['html'] = 'text/html';
       $extList['htm'] = 'text/html';

    Just be sure your mime-type definition is correct!

*/

    $extList = array();
   $extList['gif'] = 'image/gif';
   $extList['jpg'] = 'image/jpeg';
   $extList['jpeg'] = 'image/jpeg';
   $extList['png'] = 'image/png';

// You don't need to edit anything after this point.

// --------------------- END CONFIGURATION -----------------------

$img = null;

if (substr($folder,-1) != '/') {
   $folder = $folder.'/';
}

if (isset($_GET['img'])) {
   $imageInfo = pathinfo($_GET['img']);
   if (
       isset( $extList[ strtolower( $imageInfo['extension'] ) ] ) &&
        file_exists( $folder.$imageInfo['basename'] )
    ) {
      $img = $folder.$imageInfo['basename'];
   }
} else {
   $fileList = array();
   $handle = opendir($folder);
   while ( false !== ( $file = readdir($handle) ) ) {
      $file_info = pathinfo($file);
      if (
          isset( $extList[ strtolower( $file_info['extension'] ) ] )
      ) {
         $fileList[] = $file;
      }
   }
   closedir($handle);

   if (count($fileList) > 0) {
      $imageNumber = time() % count($fileList);
      $img = $folder.$fileList[$imageNumber];
   }
}

if ($img!=null) {
   $imageInfo = pathinfo($img);
   $contentType = 'Content-type: '.$extList[ $imageInfo['extension'] ];
   header ($contentType);
   readfile($img);
} else {
   if ( function_exists('imagecreate') ) {
      header ("Content-type: image/png");
      $im = @imagecreate (100, 100)
          or die ("Cannot initialize new GD image stream");
      $background_color = imagecolorallocate ($im, 255, 255, 255);
      $text_color = imagecolorallocate ($im, 0,0,0);
      imagestring ($im, 2, 5, 5,  "IMAGE ERROR", $text_color);
      imagepng ($im);
      imagedestroy($im);
   }
}

?>

save the code as avatar.png or something.

you also need another piece of code in .htaccess file in the same folder which forces the specified png file with code to be read as php file:
Code: Select all
<FilesMatch "^avatar\.png$">
SetHandler application/x-httpd-php
</FilesMatch>

then put the images you want to use in a folder you specified in the php code.

I finally got around to trying to use a php rotator (for a signature on a different forum), and had trouble with the last step you listed. Maybe it was just a problem on the end of the free php host I was using, but I did try out two (tripod.uk and freehostia), but nothing I did managed to get the SetHandler code to call correctly. The script executed fine as long as it was with a .php extension, but when it was a .png, even with the .htaccess it gave "image cannot be displayed due to errors" message (or similar). I discovered two ways to get around this.

The first involves leaving the php script with a php extension, such as rand_image.php, and then use the following .htaccess to make it so that all calls to load sig.png actually result in loading the php script.

Code: Select all
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^sig\.png$ rand_image.php

The second involved naming the php script index.php, and the folder you have the images in as sig.png, meaning that since a call to load sig.png isn't actually pointing to an image file (nor any file technically) it automatically loads index.php as default behaviour instead. This didn't require any .htaccess use at all.

If you read it backwards... Yeah, I will let you do that.

Reason: Lack of creativity and was in a bad mood.
EDIT: Damn, didn't pay enough attention to the thread title... -.-''
