Finally got my new laptop.

Acer Aspire 6920G, Gemstone Blue

Intel Core 2 Duo (2.0 GHZ)
16" HD LCD
Nvidia Geforce 9500 512mb dedicated memory (2303mb shared)
4GB RAM
320GB HDD
Blu Ray/DVD writer optical drive

This thing needs some getting used too but its pretty awesome. The only thing I don't like is the fact that I'm running on Vista 64x.

My old 5 year old desktop.

P4 2.4GHZ
Geforce 4100 128mb dedicated memory
512mb RAM
60GB HDD

I'm so glad I got this laptop. Although it cost me a hefty sum.

I don't see it, why would we have to have awesome machines? Oh yeah, to play F/SN

Anyway, my old beast-machine. (only part that is young is my 1 year old HDD, so you can fill in the blanks)
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (that's 1.9Ghz there, folks.)
2x512Mb Kingston(?) Heatsinked PC3200.
ATI Radeon 9600pro 128Mb. (The sad truth...)
80GB SATA HDD from an unknown brand.
External 400GB HDD Philips. (I love it, but it's like, full.)
And yeah, that's it.

I am saving money so I can buy an awesome machine like my friend did, 650 euro's for C2quad q6600, 2Gb memory, 9600GT... you get the point.
Everything I need though, is a better soundcard, cause my on-board one is doing nothing to make life easier for FL Studio.
Candlejack, I wonder what hap

hm, try aiming for a different card.
First off, the 9600GT is slower than the 8800GT (i'm assuming this card is the norm for new PCs.),
Second, it is included in the defective Nvidia GPU list on the news recently (chances are slim though, I have one albeit unused and there are many others who have yet to experience this yet they were able to use the said cards for a long time without any faults.)
Lastly, the newer ATi line of cards ain't bad at all. HD4850 and HD4870 from what I've heard.

Of course, it is entirely up to you.

The model laptop I was looking for had a 2.4GHZ processor, but it's only instock online so I had to settle for the 2.0GHZ model.

So bragging my laptop (it's good, but not like you gods here), but my Pc ran Firefox with 57 tabs with NO lag whatsoever. I was really surprised (I'm the person that keeps opening new tabs while surfing without realizing but this time it went a bit overboard). Firefox is really impressive.

oh, I wish. (I bet you mean those x264 / h.264 encoded videos, yes?)
although that would involve using paid services / software / decoders offered by video card vendors (e.g. NVIDIA PureVideo / ATi Avivo or something like that) and being able to force MPC / (insert favorite video player here) to use said decoders / filters.

just switched my card from a 8600GT to a 9600GT. Everything feels as if doubled in speed now.

I don't get it message, how come your pc can't run hd anime correctly...mine and yours seem to be pretty equal, and i can watch hd anime and play wow on a separate monitor at the same time..you can't enable video acceleration? that seems rather weird. wrong chipset drivers? video card defective?

i think he can. it's just that it saps too much processor power while he's at it as well as everyone else.
which brings in the point of Hardware Acceleration to h.264. That way, the said sapped power will be offloaded to the video card instead of the processor.

then again, you can play WoW while watching HD anime? that's good.

Well I installed CoreAVC two weeks ago and I've got to say, it is indeed MUCH faster. So now I can play 15GB two-hour movies without a hitch. Indeed it'd be better if I could get hardware acceleration to work, but I've no idea how to do that.

Atvaark: You say you can play HD and WoW at the same time... Are you talking about real 720p/1080p, or did you mean just general "HD" tagged fansubs, at resolutions down to 784x576 or 848x480?

well, mostly anime downloaded from the net, yeah. but i also played some blue-ray dvd's too. doesn't seem like our machine cares. the video card we both have was meant to do that easily. i try to always get the highest quality anime, not sure exactly how good that quality is. they are the tagged hd fansubs. i watch the anime or blue ray dvd's on my 1680x1050 laptop display while i play games on my 1280x1024 screen...where do you get real hd anime then? i haven't found any interesting blue-ray or hd-dvd of anime yet...

Indeed there aren't that many 1080p anime releases, but most modern movies can be found on BD or HDDVD. 5 Centimeters per Second, Beyond the Clouds, Paprika... Iblard Jikan. If you can playback 1080p while playing a 3D game at the same time, you've obviously got hardward accel working just fine. What software do you use?

well, for codecs, cccp codec pack is all i have, plus the software that came with my blue-ray drive...for those i have no choice but to use powerdvd, since wmp doesn't work. as for anything else, i use said windows media player. i managed to play fear as well at medium settings while playing a blue-ray dvd. only got around 25 fps on the game though. then again, it doesn't like windowed mode, which is necessary for using more than 1 screen...
if you meant anything else, just ask...
and for your hardware acceleration problem, it might not be much, but try using this site to put all your drivers up to date, it's in french, but i don't think you of all people will have any trouble navigating it...
http://www.touslesdrivers.com/
just go to the "Mes Drivers" tab and install that little plugin and let the thing do it's magic.

on a totally unrelated topic, it would be fun to take all the locked threads in the forum and place them in a thread of their own. i'd have a few laughs reading them.

and now to prevent this thread from being locked due to deviation, i upgraded my laptop. switched my hd for a 1 terabyte hd prices are now under 200 bucks! i was afraid it wouldn't be compatible but it works fine. now i don't need that external hd anymore...
