I would like to add that I had the same problem on Windows XP 64bit.
The installer would just give the "copying game files" screen for a long time, without any sign of progress.

Installing the game now on my laptop (with 32 bit windows), which is going flawlessly as we speak, hoping to copy it over to my main computer.

Installing the v2.0 patch went without a problem on the Windows XP 64bit though.
(didn't quite figure out how to 'manually' patch v2.0 to v3.1, so I thought I'd play it safe)

No harddrive activity either?

Uh... Just run the v3.1 installer after installing v2.0. What's so complicated about that? :?

Waited more than half an hour, while it took less than 5 minutes on my laptop to do all 3 cds.
Based on that I think you can assume it wasn't progressing.
(it's quite hard to spot hdd activity because the led shows the activity of 12 hdds)

When I run the v3.1 installer after I install the v2.0 it acts as if there isn't any previous installation,
which would end up giving the same problem as above.
(installing v2.0 went perfectly without any errors)

Additionally, installing the game on my laptop and then copying it over to my main computer worked like a charm.

I had the same 'copying' issue.
The problem seemed to be the memory usage or something, since it worked (the third or fourth time)when i left the computer alone while installing.

I'm having the same problem.. I can install 2.0 just fine. But I can't install v3.1 I'm on vista 64 also. Installing for the first time or trying to install 3.1 after installing 2.0.. neither work.

Corrupt CDs?

Unread postby mirrormoonpala » November 8th, 2008, 9:59 am

When I try to install the game using the patch it goes smoothly on the first 2 discs.. however, after inserting the 3rd disc, the installation stops and says 'installation failed, restart installation'.

It happens everytime.

Trying to install the version2 then installing version 3.1 same thing happens...

What could be happening here?

@mirrormoonpala
Check if there's something wrong with your 3rd disc.

The reason why the 3.0 installer is taken down is it was the inital release and had a few bugs in it. So the 3.1 installer came out to fix those problems, so that's the answer why the 3.0 installer was taken down now.

Hey guys, i got it to work!

I took all files on the 3 CDs and merged them to a single ISO file. I named the ISO "FateDisc1" and setup completed without problems on Vista64.
For dummies: Copy the files found on all three CDs to your hard disk -> burn them onto a DVD and call it "FateDisc1". Voila.

Registered just to tell you that :)

However, I can't install the 3.1 fix... it says it can't find my installation even though I pointed it to the right folder. Gonna try and play the game right now...

Just to confirm, I'm running x64 Vista and managed to install 3.1 by using the 2.0 installer to copy the game files and then running the 3.1 installer afterwards seems to work fine.
