Voice patch installation speed?

Unread postby SilentChaos87 » September 22nd, 2008, 3:08 am

I'm installing the voice patch (whoo, my Reality NUA copy showed up!) but its been patching for the past....4 hours and it says it is still gonna take another 25 hours. Is that normal, because it certainly doesn't seem normal...

computer specs issue may affect the speed, afaik.

I'm packing three gigs of RAM and an Intel Pentium Dual Core CPU at 1.86 gHz and 1.87 gHz.

Unless there's another factor.

i remember when i installed it, it was at around 24 hours itself
it installed in about 3 hours though, near the 2 hour mark it sped up really fast
(dunno, that's how it happened to me)

Do you have an antivirus or firewall running?

Yes, but I saved the installer so I'm not sure how that would affect it.

How fast is your DVD read speed? That could affect it possibly.

It is not scanning the installer. It is scanning the files from the DVD that are being transferred in the installation of the voices.

Please turn off your antivirus or whatever live monitoring ability it has. If you are paranoid, disconnect your computer from the internet as well.

Disabling firewalls and anti-virus did nothing, can't figure out how to check my read speed.

If you are using a laptop you may have as slow as a 4200 RPM harddrive, and that could affect the speed. My brother's laptop has a 4200 RPM harddrive with a similarly specced processor. For "extended battery life" or whatever they want to call being cheap now.
(What comes in now is something about how a pirated copy would possibly run that slow on a 4200-5400 RPM laptop harddrive)

Well, whatever it was it seemed to correct itself overnight. Everything's peachy now. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
