I was just pointing out that there was indeed a katana in there. Of course it isn't Assassin's. His blade isn't a noble phantasm. And as raitei pointed out the length and grip are too different.

assassin's is an ordinary katana, like hundreds of others the samurais were using. it's his incredible raw skill that gives him the abilities he has, not a super weapon.

nasu agreed, don't bother him about it. :P

Exactly. Assassin's Katana is a pretty oridinary (although very good) Katana that is made just for him, since noone else can wield such a long blade.

On the topic of luck and Gae Bolg, one could make a D&D analogy. Say Gae Bolg is thrown at you, to successfully dodge Gae Bolg, you would need to roll a 20 sided dice, and get at a 35. Now, for normal people this is impossible. What luck does is give you bonus to that 'dodge roll' say, 5 points per level.

A person with E-rank luck would only get a +5 bonus, meaning that at most, he would roll a 25, which is still not enough to dodge Gae Bolg. Someone with B-rank luck, however, would get a +20 bonus. That means that as long as that person would roll a 15 or higher, he's safe.

Of course, the bonus doesn't mean you are safe, but it helps pass the roll when Gae Bolg is thrown. In Saber's case she rolled a 13 or 14, her luck bonus made that a 33 or 34, not enough to completely dodge Gae Bolg, but enough to survive it.

[/end D&D rambles]

On the subject of katana, just because Gil has a few prototypes of legendary weapons doesn't mean every weapon has a prototype. In Excalibur's case, the sword Gil pulled out was an 'original' because it was a sword of which the legend of Excalibur is based. Same for Gungnir and Gae Bolg. Even if Assasin's sword had been a Noble Phantasm, that wouldn't have meant that Gil necessarily had an original of it. Crazy example: If Shirou were to 'create' the Golden Gun of the James Bond movie, there is no way Gil could have pulled out an original, because an original doesn't exist.

EVEN IF Gilgamesh has a copy of Assasin's sword, what is the use? Gilgamesh is not Emiya, he cannot download skills from NP. Furthermore, he is not particularly proficient at using a katana (otherwise he would be a Sabre). Also, a katana has a rather short range (compare to a lance or a bow), small area of effect, not exactly good at hacking through heavy armors. Furthermore, I don't see the advantage of fighting Assasin with a katana. That will be like giving Gilgamesh himself a handicap.

Against Assasin, Gilgamesh will probably not use GoB, because of Assasin's high agility and luck. He will miss a few hits, get cut up bad by Assasin, then feel humiliated, then wipe Assasin out with Ea.

It was Calibur's original, Balmung, not Excalibur. Excalibur is, as you say, one of those swords that Gilgamesh doesn't have any kind of original from, probably because it was made by the Earth and all that...

excalibur was made by fairies, not humans. that's why gilgamesh didn't have it. but still, it was made in earth. that's why, unlike ea, shirou is still able to copy it.

btw, the one gil has in his vault is balmung / merodach. and as supposed, it's the base of caliburn AND gram.
