Moving my F/SN game folder...

Unread postby SmellyGoomba » August 15th, 2008, 1:03 am

If I move my F/SN folder (Which has everything in it like music, save data and everything) into an external, then move that into a new computer, will everything still work as is?

Or will I encounter some kind of error because I just simply moved the files?

God knows, I'd assume it works the same as Tsukihime worked like that. There shouldn't be anything computer specific about the game... Have a go now and try? XD

It works. As far as I know FSN doesn't seem to create anything in my registry files. I've moved it around multiple times and it still works, saves the hassle of reinstalling and keeps saves.

I can't really try it right now since I don't even have an external to begin with.

But it's something I have to deal with in the near future.

It may break the installer in some ways though, such as a next release not finding your moved folder for the default install path.

One thing I CAN say for sure: Never move the uninstaller by itself! This may cause severe problems, to the point of it deleting files it shouldn't. This is a "feature" in NSIS that I didn't know about back then. Future uninstallers will autodetect such scenarios.

Just to make sure, the thing you're talking about is uninstall.exe?

I probably won't face this problem though, I'll just move the entire Fate folder.

I moved my save data and stuff to an external and I did not have any problems with it and i managed to put the game on my new computer w/o using the disc.
