"mana" -> "magical energy"

Unread post by blind51de » March 19th, 2008, 6:49 am

While I know it's a more literal translation, it just seems kind of ham-fisted.

Did anyone state the reasoning that led to this change?

TIME IS MANA!

I have nothing further to add to this thread, for now.

Coz before, there were 2 definitions used - the magical energy that has had its name changed (the overall term), and "mana", the magical energy drawn from the world.

Well, thats purely my opinion....
Tsukihime drinking game. 1. Every time a word or a phrase is repeated 3 or more times, take a drink (eg. This chair).
2. Every time Shiki claims not to understand something already explained, take a drink
3. Every time Shiki doesn't realize someone is hitting on him, take a drink.
4. Every time someone who should be dead, isn't, take a drink.
5. Every time Shiki does something ridiculous with points\lines.

Oh noes! I'm being a snobby know-it-all again!

The term used is maryoku.

There really is a difference between types of magical energies.
Od + Mana = Prana

Since prana is both, prana is appropriate in nearly all cases.

Magical energy is acurate, Mana not. Like brizzle said, "Magical energy" is formed by "Mana" and "Od", so doesn't make sense in the other way.

What "change" are you talking about? As others mentioned, magical energy is the broader term.

Much due respect to Arai and his terminology, but we always used our own (although we borrowed some of his in a few cases), so we never used the term "prana" in any translation. Whether it is ham-fisted or not is probably just a matter of perception.
