Name meanings?

Unread postby Jenia » August 23rd, 2006, 3:16 pm

Out of more of my pure, uncorrupt curiosity I wanted to ask for the meaning of the kanji in each character's name ^____^

I'm sure a lot of these are wrong, but... well, I'm sure someone more experienced can correct me.

遠野 志貴 Tohno Shiki - Distant Field, Resolved Honor
七夜 志貴 Nanaya Shiki - Seven Nights, Resolved Honor
遠野 秋葉 Tohno Akiha - Distant Field, Autumn Leaf
翡翠 Hisui - Jade
琥珀 Kohaku - Amber
Arcueid Brunestud - Cool sounding foreign name?
Ciel - French for Sky
乾 有彦 Inui Arihiko - Heaven, Possessed Boy
乾 一子 Inui Ichiko - Heaven, First Child / Best Child
弓塚 皐月 Yumizuka Satsuki - Bow Hillock, Fifth Lunar Month (May)
蒼崎 青子 Aozaki Aoko - Blue Split, Blue Child
蒼崎 橙子 Aozaki Tohko - Blue Split, Orange Child / Bitter Child
遠野 四季 Tohno Shiki (The REAL Tohno Shiki) - Distant Field, Four Seasons
軋間 紅摩 Kishima Kouma - Squeaky Space, Crimson Rub (REAAALY not sure about this)
有間 都古 Arima Miyako - Possesed Space, Old Capital
Nanako - Seven child? Don't know what the characters are for this, just guessing.
Roa - Hebrew for evil (the noun)
Nrvnqsr - Supposed to add up to 666 in Hebrew...

Any tips? I need all the japanese help I can get, so the more feedback the better. Also, I think I saw a list like this already, I can't remember where though.

My limited Japanese is able to add in:

Satsuki is the old name for May (in the Lunar calandar; I am not sure if transposing Solar Calandar month names onto Lunar ones is a good idea or not). It should be written 皐月 too, so it is a little odd it is written Gogatsu (May).

Nanako is just taking Seven and making it sound like a girl's name. It is probably just 七子,

I wrote Satsuki as 五月 because that's the way I saw it on a website; I thought it was weird, but I just figured it was some pronunciation I didn't know about. I'll change it to 皐月 though, somehow that just looks better.

Any French speakers here?

(Slight Spoiler)

Arcuid has the last name Brunestud because she can summon the Castle Brunestud with her marble phantasms. The name Brunestud is giving to those Shinso who can do so (the only other that I know of is Altrouge, who I think is also one of the Apostles).

Also, Ciel sometimes refers to Nanako as Seven. Random trivia.

Ignorant me has only just noticed the existence of Roa.
"Roa" happens to mean "evil" in hebrew (the noun, as in "he has evil within him", not the description) .
Also, being an isreli, I tried a few possible combinations of possible letters for nrvnqsr's name, but the closest I came was 686. Maybe I'm confusing the letter order...But then again, I do live here in israel, I shouldn't be...

And still! Almost all combination contain the letter "vav", which CAN be read as "v", but it can also be read as "oo" or "o". Why did they put a V instead of O? That would'v made the name pronounceable...It would sound like Nroonxer or so. Though, I must admit, that sounds weird.

Apparently it's supposed to come out to 666...

Nrvnqsr - Supposed to be Hebrew 666, but apparently comes out to 686...

Might want to make that 'supposed to add up to 666 in Hebrew', it's not that it means it or anything. It's just like taking 6 for a, 12 for b, 18 for c and so on which is supposed to leave you with 666 for the word 'computer', which in reality is only 654.

With Roa, shouldn't the rest of his name mean something?
Edit: Actually, found it.
His name is Michael Roa Valdamjong. I dunno about you, but I think a name like that would have some meaning >.>

A mistake on my part, thanks for correcting me.

I'm pretty sure Michael means something like 'who is like God' (heh, my first name is Michael too), but I have no idea about Valdamjong. I'll just leave Roa's entry as it is until someone else can come up with something (I'm not a language buff, as some have probably figured out by now).

The part that adds up to 666 is only the 'nero' part. Chaos (qsr) is extra.

I think.

Was curious for the longest time, how NRVNQSR got the "Nero" from it.

Asked a friend at work who knows the Hebrew numbering system and when you add up each numbers it does indeed equal 666. Also the play on word with the "Nero" sounds that out with each number.
