Tsukihime anime (or lack thereof?)

Unread postby Sepheriel » October 30th, 2008, 2:48 am

I want to know why they changed it so much and why it just didn't have the depth like the visual novel did. Did they not have enough money or the right rights or what? It could have been amazing but it just lacked in so many areas (except the soundtrack, which was really good). If this topic is already somewhere then I guess you can lock it and delete (if you can).

To be honest,

I kinda prefer the more tender implication of the anime's scene with Arc and Shiki - it was quite a disappointment to learn how much of an ass in the sack the VN Shiki is to Arc... and worse, that she, a True Ancestor, lets him get away with it!

And what he gets away with doing to Kohaku in the Ciel and Hisui routes is worse.

But the Shiki in the non existant anime sucked balls so much.

Yeah I sort of agree with you on this one.
He did sort of do whatever he wanted with a dominant sort of air which was a little off setting. Especially in the alley scene where he gets "entranced" by Arc's eyes.

Well, it is true that Shiki seemed sort of forceful in that scene but... it's an eroge after all, it's intended to appeal to the masses of 2d-porno-drawings lovers, and most importantly, it's Nasu's "geniousness" (yes I know, that word doesn't exist) that provides us with those "lovely" and "heart warming" scenes that we all have shed tears upon.... or tear our eyes out :P

About Shingetsutan's Shiki:

QFT!
I've even dubbed him the emo-Shiki

As for the story, it strayed quite a bit from the original so it can't be really considered a real adaptation to Arc's route. Why did it happened? I dunno, I suppose to make it more "sellable" to their emo-kid audiende. I doubt the rights were a real problem, since at that time Type-Moon wasn't a very big company to begin with and having an (supposed) anime adaptation of one of their works would really do the trick to start getting attention from the media and the public and, more importantly, moar precious cash. It's not like they didn't have any, but it's safe to say that they got even more after the release of Shingetsutan. It was more like a win-win scenario even if the story got sort of mangled in the process, I guess. I'd go on in this subject but it's late and I need to sleep...

Ugh... The pic gives me a headache, and still it's so TRUE I can't believe it... xD

And yes, the non-existant anime adaption is no match for the VN, but I agree with the fact that the Sountrack was very good, still, when the remake of the VN comes out, I hope they'll remake the non-existant anime into a better one that will truly exist this time^^

Yeah, pictures with Optical illusions give me a headache too, but I think it's because I'm kinda stupid?

I looked at the anime and saw it was 12 episodes...I looked at what the characters looked like and said lol no, so I never watched it, but I've seen screen caps.

*looks at picture* Hisui-chan said it, so it must be true!

*ahem* Well, at the very least, I saw the anime before I knew of the VN, so it was my gateway to the TM world. That's a good thing.

About that, it was the same for me :) After seeing that, I saw the Fate/Stay Night anime, and looked into Kara too (although I waited for the anime movies to come out) Next thing I knew, I see the name "Melty Blood" pop up on a site mentioned as a fighting game with Tsukihime chars and I was like "MUST HAVE!!!". Everything after that can be put together with just one sentence: "It was TYPE-MOON-related".

Can't say I'm a ultra-hardcore TYPE-MOON fan, but I enjoy their games... A LOT.

Well, Nasu did a better job - occasionally - of making Shirou a more considerate chap. Not always, sadly, but even then he's not trying to be as selfish as Shiki is...

such as in Fate - he was rushed into things by Rin with Saber, and felt guilty about how things went. However, the second time around, the two took more time and care (not least because it was just the two of them) and things went much, much better.

If there is one thing I'd like to see put into the remake, I hope Nasu makes Shiki less selfish, and more compassionate, in those scenes.

Well if this non-existant anime had at least 24 episodes to run with it may have done a lot better then having 12 episodes that didn't make much snese. I mean it was like they tried to combine all of the storylines, and then tossed most of that out and managed to make something up as they kind of went along.

Never the less the manga did start off the same way as the anime did. Although it went more in depth with not only Shiki and Arc, but with the other girls as well. Besides this gave it where it was possible for Akiha to be in the main story branch and not stuck as some kind of background character. I mean
she has a fight with Ciel in her own home for gooness sakes.
Unfortunatelly, I've only read a few volumes of it, but never had the chance to finish it fully though.

Over all the Visual Novel and the manga are way better than the non-existant anime any day.

Cannot unsee? The first time I watched Shin...Shin..Shingetsutan Tsukihime, I found it rather interesting. Of course, it was also what brought me into the TM world. It was different from the other anime I watched at that time and I found if very appealing. The story did seem to go everywhere, even when I haven't played the VN yet, so I guess it could seem very rushed. After I read the VN, I.... Wait, what was I talking about? The WHAT anime?

And with that I'm thankful I came in though the Fate side of things. I mean by anime standpoint since if I went though the non-exisant anime I think I would of never become a fan of the Type-Moon works. Although I guess we'll never know now.

In any case if they had more episodes to run with or just went with the basis of Arc's actual storyline instead of adding a few fillers it wight of actually worked.

Simply put, it was a valiant effort; but still a failure.
